Expression and control
Sustain is commonly represented by CC64. In a basic switched interpretation, values 0–63 are off and 64–127 on. A note can continue after release because the pedal is still active. The pedal has its own event timeline, separate from note durations.
If sustain remains on at the end, shortening the final note may not solve the audible tail. Inspect pedal closure too. Half-pedal behaviour depends on the receiving instrument; the presence of detailed values does not guarantee that every player reproduces them.
Example
CC64=127 can engage sustain; a later CC64=0 indicates release.
