Properties of sound
Pitch describes how high or low a note is; loudness describes how strong it sounds. Moving right on a keyboard generally raises pitch. Playing the same key more strongly can change dynamics without changing the note.
Before editing, decide whether the melody needs a different register or simply needs to stand out in the arrangement. Treat those as separate musical choices.
Example
Imagine playing a phrase softly, then moving it up an octave. These edits change different properties.
