Pitch bend versus note number

Open the interactive module

Expression and control

Pitch bend changes pitch without replacing the note number. MIDI 1.0 carries a fourteen-bit value with centre at 8192. Its musical range depends on the receiver’s bend sensitivity, so a raw value alone does not specify a universal semitone interval.

Classic channel pitch bend can affect several notes on the same channel. Independent note expression needs appropriate routing or supported extended approaches. A bend left off-centre may affect later notes. This protocol explanation is not a claim that the current application plays or exports every bend nuance.

Example

The same extreme value differs musically with receiver ranges of ±2 and ±12 semitones.
