Structure of makam

Tetrachord and pentachord structures help discuss specified pitch relationships in makam theory. Çeşni concerns their melodic character and use. Four or five arbitrary notes do not automatically form a named çeşni; intervals and context matter.

State the pitch on which a structure is being considered. Using a named structure on another pitch does not by itself establish that an entire makam has been transposed there. Study local structure, seyir and final arrival as related but distinct layers. Detailed intonation still needs specialised study.

Example

If a source says “on nevâ”, identify that pitch and then the specified structure separately.
