What is an EPK and how do you prepare one?
MusicianCV editorial draft · Updated 24 October 2026. Examples are illustrative; this guide does not independently verify qualifications or music rights.
Define the promotional task
An EPK is an electronic press kit: selected text and media links that introduce an artist, project or current work. It should help a reader understand you and the relevant project rather than compress your entire history. A festival, press contact and stage conversation may ask for different information. Adapt the kit to the recipient’s actual needs.
An example structure
Start with the artist or project name, a short introduction, selected works, a relevant live example, shareable stage information and a professional contact route you choose to publish. Know who supplied a photograph and how it may be used. Identify the work, release status and your role. Do not turn an unverified compliment or achievement into a promotional claim.
Connect the bio to the listening example
Describe what music you make and your role, then choose a work that demonstrates that statement. Explain the approach you actually offer rather than saying you do everything. Source links can have account, region or platform restrictions. Sending a kit does not guarantee that every recipient can play every source under all conditions.
The MusicianCV output
Arrange the cover, artist information, sections and selected works in the EPK builder. Its 9:16 presentation may not match every recipient’s requested format, so check that requirement separately. Page count can depend on content. After downloading a PDF or page images, inspect them on a phone and a wider screen. Correct clipped lines and inaccessible links.
Keep it current
Review the kit after a new work, a meaningful personnel change or a different application purpose. You do not need to include private contact-card information in a public kit. Before reusing a file, check dates, project status and links. An EPK is a presentation tool, not identity verification, a guarantee of employment or confirmation of music rights.
