Quantize: which timing are we adjusting?

Open the interactive module

Timing and files

Quantisation moves note starts or other events toward a chosen timing grid. Targets can include eighths, sixteenths or triplets. Applications may treat starts, endings and lengths separately, so identify what the command actually changes.

Small early or late placements can carry expression. Preserve the original and test a short passage before applying a global edit. Full snapping, partial adjustment and swing produce different results. If meter or tempo is misinterpreted, quantisation can hide the underlying problem rather than solve it.

Example

An attack at 0.49 s might move to 0.50 s with a full half-second grid snap.
