Understanding three against two

Rhythmic relationships

Three against two places three equal divisions and two equal divisions within the same span. The layers share boundaries but not every attack. This differs from accidentally changing meter or layering unrelated tempi.

For a practice model, split the span into six equal units. The two-part layer starts at units 1 and 4; the three-part layer at 1, 3 and 5. Learn each separately before combining them. This simple model explains the alignment without claiming to represent every polyrhythmic tradition.

Example

Across six slots: A at 1,4; B at 1,3,5. They coincide at the beginning.
