Manufacturer-specific or universal payloads are framed by F0 and F7. Check the receiving device’s format before transmission.

System exclusive message · F0 … F7 → SysEx

Bytes in the example are hexadecimal. In channel messages the first byte identifies the type and channel. Subsequent data bytes carry parameters. System messages use other layouts.

Which field should you identify first in a MIDI monitor?
